In the following sections, we show you how to use basic image editing tools and how to use advanced features of Photoshop.

Making changes with the standard tools

In this section, we show you how to use the standard tools in the standard places to work on images — from the Window menu and the Layers palette to Photoshop’s menus. The following sections take you through these tools.

Image adjustments

The basic image adjustments — like brightness, contrast, or color balance — are easy to work with and are easy to miss as you work with a photo. These types of adjustments are available in the Adjustments panel.

Adjustments Panel

To use the Adjustments panel, choose Image⇒Adjustments (Windows) or Image⇒Adjustments (Mac). In the Adjustments panel, look for the images in the adjustment area near the top. At the bottom of the panel is a menu with the categories you can use to make changes: Brightness, Color, and Contrast. You can also access the dialog box for fine-tuning the amount of change you want to make to the image.

To make adjustments to a photograph:

Choose Brightness/Contrast to select Brightness or Contrast from the menu.

Quick Tutorial: How to Use Photoshop Elements to Edit Photos

If you are a beginner with the program and have no idea how to use Photoshop Elements, you will find the following tutorial to be very helpful. It consists of several parts to help you learn the basics of the app quickly and easily.

If you have an iPhone or iPad and have learned how to take digital photos through the camera app and edit them in the Photos app, you can edit them in Photoshop Elements just as you would in any other image editing software. The process of cropping, resizing and photo effects should be familiar to you.

1. Download and Install Photoshop Elements

First, if you have not already done so, download Photoshop Elements (it’s free).

The download should automatically open in Photoshop Elements. Right-click and select Install, if you do not see that option when you open the file.

If you are not signed in to your Adobe account on your computer, it will ask you to enter your Adobe ID. If you do not have an Adobe ID, there is a link at the top right to download one.

If you are signed in and already have a free Adobe ID, or if you have an Adobe ID with a free account, the installer will ask you to upgrade. As long as you have entered your Adobe ID correctly, you can click on the Upgrades button. It will bring up a dialog box that will tell you what upgrades are available.

It will also give you the option to upgrade to the Creative Cloud version or return to the Adobe Elements download.

Click on the Agree button if you want to upgrade. If you click on the OK button, it will install and open Photoshop Elements.

2. Open Photoshop Elements

Click on the File button in the upper left of the Photoshop Elements’ Window and select Open.

Drag the downloaded file onto the Photoshop Elements’ window.

The Photoshop Elements app will open and run from the downloaded file. You may have to wait a bit for it to download any updates.

Donald Trump will not say whether he will run for president in 2020 during a news conference he had planned for Wednesday afternoon, according to a pool report.

The Republican president is in Washington, D.C., for meetings with the FBI and Department of Homeland Security as well as with Congressional leaders.

When a reporter asked Trump Tuesday afternoon whether he would run for president again in 2020, the president played a round of golf before taking a call from House Speaker Paul Ryan.

“I won’t make a decision,” Trump said. “I’m thinking about it very seriously. I will give it some thought. I’m not ready to make that decision yet.”

Trump repeated the same answer to a question from another reporter.

“Oh, I’m not going to make the decision now,” Trump said. “I want to give it some thought.”

“Are you ruling out?” the reporter asked.

“I’m not ruling out,” Trump said.

The president said that he will make a decision after he has spoken with people he is considering as possible vice presidential picks and after the midterm elections.

“It’s very interesting. I’m talking to some of the really top people,” Trump said.

The president also didn’t answer a question about whether he thought people should respect the opinion of a president they disagreed with.

“You know what?” Trump said. “They always ask me that question. It depends on the person.”

“Should they respect my opinion?” Trump said. “Yeah, I think that’s great, too. I’ll respect their opinion.”

Before leaving the club for the Oval Office, the president spoke to reporters and again played a round of golf, this time at the Congressional golf course.

“How’s that golf? I’m still practicing,” Trump said. “I’m not there yet. But I’m practicing hard.”
