Shooting the tonal range of an image

In digital photography, the _tonal range_ of an image is the range of shadows, mids, and highlights in the image. Figure 10-7 shows a series of photos that were captured from the same image, but the exposure changed from a light to a dark image with each consecutive exposure. Not all images, whether captured digitally or with a film camera, can be shot at all levels of exposure; you must choose a level that gives you the best image quality based on lighting and the scene.

Losing a crucial application

Having worked with Photoshop for 20 years, I’m used to having Photoshop as part of my computer environment and I prefer the way it works to Elements.

Over the years, I’ve found myself dealing with ads, which I’ve banned from my WordPress admin area on a couple of my websites. I had to change the “I’m a webmaster, so I know better” attitude. I’ve had to learn to be tolerant of ads, because I am: users pay for the content I produce.

But I found myself more and more intolerant of ads appearing on my blog posts. A recent security patch caused a big debate about the security risks of digital ads. I’ve also moved to a better template, with fewer ads.

My experience with Elements

I’ve been using Photoshop Elements for about 3 months, but I’ve been making the jump from Photoshop CS4 to Photoshop CC, in fact, and it’s been an interesting experience!

For some of us, you can get away with not knowing all the features of this program, but for others, they might be a must-have. Elements is relatively new and hasn’t had the time to be fully fleshed out.

1. The user interface

This is the first thing that I noticed. The Elements interface is extremely simple and clean. I’ve never used a program that has a minimalist UI. It feels powerful and fast. It doesn’t get in the way. It’s fluid and well-organized, yet it’s easy to navigate.

It wasn’t too long before I realized that I felt like I could put this app on a smartphone, to use, and it would be just as powerful and fast.

2. The learning curve

Elements has a bit of a learning curve, as do all programs. The learning curve comes from using the tool, which has a handful of different options, each with many options and numerous icons.

You have to learn when to use what tool, so I found myself having to Google more, which took time. It also gave me the opportunity to learn some of the names of the tools.

My advice: I would keep a camera with me all the time. I would snap pictures of specific things that are bothering me. You can use these pictures as reminders of what each tool is used for. Sometimes, when I’m in the studio, I’ll Google the name of a

The proposed PVCI is also computationally simple and could be potentially useful for real-time applications. Conclusions {#Sec16}
===========

In this study, we presented a PVCI method for high-contrast image enhancement. Inspired by the well-known CIE coordinated colorimetry, the PVCI combines the color transformation and the contrast enhancement in a simple and easy way. We further introduced a high-pass filtering based on Gaussian kernels to overcome the Gaussian blurring in input images for the intensity image and to preserve small-scale detail in regions rich in contrast. This high-pass filtering is based on a convex transformation

Monoharringtonine is a typical mitotic inhibitor, which is a drug isolated from a plant, Cephalotaxus harringtonia. It has been successfully developed to treat acute myeloid leukemia (AML). However, the mechanism of monoharringtonine is still unclear. The objective of this study was to investigate the potential role of mitochondrial dysfunction in monoharringtonine-induced AML apoptosis. The results showed that monoharringtonine significantly inhibited the proliferation of AML cells. The cell cycle was arrested at the G2/M phase after 24 h of treatment. Cells were also recruited to an early apoptotic state as well as a late apoptotic state at 48 h. Reactive oxygen species, reactive nitrogen species, ATP and mitochondrial membrane potential were reduced, while mitochondrial release of cytochrome c and activation of caspase-9, caspase-3 and caspase-8 were observed after 24 h of treatment. More importantly, the ratio of Bax/Bcl-2 and the activity of apoptosis-inducing factor were elevated. All these events are typical of mitochondria-associated intrinsic apoptosis.
