The _For Dummies_ books by W. Scott Coatsworth and Joe McKendry are both fairly new. You can search for _Photoshop 7 For Dummies, Photoshop 8 For Dummies, and Photoshop 9 For Dummies_ on Amazon.

## Digital Image Editing

One of the quickest ways to grab a photo of yourself is to use your smartphone or other camera. If you haven’t yet used photo-editing software, there are several apps that allow you to adjust aspects of your photos, such as brightness or color, resize and rotate, straighten your photo, or delete unwanted objects.

In this tutorial, I will show you how to use Photoshop elements to delete unwanted objects, create a logo and design a poster.

Using Photoshop Elements to Delete Unwanted Objects

I will be showing you how to use Photoshop elements to remove objects from an image. Of course, you can use Photoshop to do this too. If you want to learn how to use Photoshop for object removal, check out my Photoshop Elements Tutorial.

If you want to remove objects from a photo, you can do it with selections. Selective allows you to isolate objects in a photo. It enables you to edit the objects you select. You can manipulate the shape, color, and size of the objects by clicking on them and then editing it with the tools available.

The image below was taken from the Neighbourhood Guide. I wanted to create a map of the area around my house. You can see an example of the results below:

I used Image Stabilizer to create a stable image and then I started to create the area’s outline.

I used selections to build the area’s map.

I created a few paths, used the Pen Tool to create the curvy lines, and finally I used the Pathfinder tool to create the outline for the final map.

You can delete unwanted objects like this:

Select the objects

Click on Select

Click on Modify

Click on Make Selection

Press Delete

Repeat the steps on the unwanted objects

You can also use the pen tool to delete objects. I will create a guide and show you how to use it too.

Add a guide

Use the pen tool to draw the area’s outline

Select the objects with the arrow tool

Click on Delete

Wait for the objects to delete

Once you’ve removed the unwanted objects, you’re ready to share the edit with your friends!

Creating a Logo in Photoshop Elements

I will be showing you how to create a simple logo in Photoshop Elements. You can make different design elements from objects like the flag, heart, moon, or water. I will teach you how to create a simple logo with Photoshop elements.

Step 1: Create a Photoshop document

Use any image editing software to create a document. I used Photoshop Elements. You can also use Adobe Photoshop. I will be using 2200 x 1600 pixels.

Gain layer effects to lighten, darken, or colorize portions of an image. Select a layer and choose Lighten, Darken, or Colorize from Layer’s panel menu.

The Rectangular Marquee tool can be used to crop images. To select the tool, click in an empty part of the image, and drag around the area to select. Click to clear the selection.

Go to the Magic Wand tool and click in an area that needs to be selected, then click the tool to select that area. An “eyeball” selection can be made by pressing the Shift key while using the tool.

Use the Pen tool (located in the Pen tool panel under the WordArt menu) to edit letters, words, and graphics. Edit text by clicking and dragging; click to add text, click in an area of the image to remove text.

Go to the Adjustments panel to edit color and brightness. Go to the Photo menu, click Enhance, and choose Sharpen.

The Lasso tool is a popular tool for selecting portions of an image, such as creating an outline around a shape, erasing parts of an image, or copying a selected area of an image.

Use the Draw tool to draw lines, text, or shapes.

To copy a tool, right-click and choose Copy from the menu. Then, go to another tool, select the image part or shape, right-click and choose Paste from the menu.

Use the Zoom tool to zoom in or out on an image.

You can use the Brush tool to paint in an image. For example, you can paint a design, add an object, fill an area, or work on graphics.

To select an area of the image with the Brush tool, click. Then, to select a brush with a specified size, click the brush you want and click again to set the size.

To select an area of the image with the Brush tool, click the tool and click in an image area.

Use the Burn tool to remove portions of an image. This tool is useful for removing background objects from a photo, for example.

The Magic Wand tool is used for selecting an area, such as an object. Click the tool and click once in an area of the image that you want to select, or click and drag to select a larger area.

Read a first look at the upcoming third season of ‘Deep Space Nine’

If you’re familiar with the long-running TV series, Deep Space Nine, you know that you’re in for a special treat today. The most recent episode of the series, “The Search,” has just been released, and it’s worth posting now.

The new season (which premieres on January 20) is set in 2364. The story focuses on Capt. Terok Nor, the very first captain of the Bajoran space station who, after the Dominion’s occupation of Cardassia Prime, leaves the station’s orbit to go back to the planet on a mission to meet with Gul Dukat, a Cardassian representative of the Federation in the occupied planet.

The above teaser, which features Quark and his crew in front of a painting of Terok Nor, is a teaser for the title of tonight’s episode: “Through the Looking Glass.” Not only is it a perfect title in and of itself, but it also hints at what’s to come in the seventh year of Deep Space Nine.
